ReThink is a household waste-management center that uses an optical scanner to help people appropriately sort their trash and recycling. Once sorted, plastic and metal recyclables are compacted into bales- eliminating the need for municipal sorting.
The compacted bales are taken directly to a material purchaser and the user receives payment for their recyclables via an app. The easy to use interface allows people to see their consumption for the current week. Long-term consumption and peer comparison data can be accessed through the app.
ReThink fundamentally changes the way people think about waste, and the metrics the system provides help people reduce their consumption. By eliminating municipal sorting, the value of the recycled commodities is preserved, increasing the desirability of recycled materials.
